ABA Therapy for School-Age Children in Deerfield Beach, FL

Empowering Confidence. Cultivating Independence. Elevating Potential.

At My Favorite Therapists, we specialize in advanced ABA therapy for children over the age of 5. At this stage, your child needs more than just foundational skills. They need the tools to thrive in school, manage friendships, solve problems, and gain independence. Our school-age programs are built around real-life challenges and tailored to your child’s evolving world.
Whether your child struggles with executive functioning, social interactions, emotional regulation, or learning independence, we create a plan that meets them where they are and helps them grow far beyond.

Why Families Choose MFT for Advanced ABA Therapy

Our BCBAs and therapists are experts in school-age behavioral needs, including emotional regulation, peer interaction, academic readiness, and problem-solving. We understand that your 6, 9, or 12-year-old isn’t a toddler and our therapy reflects that. We build complex, functional skills through engaging, age-appropriate methods that respect your child’s growing autonomy.

Understanding the ABA Therapy Process: A Step-by-Step Guide for Your Family

Step 1: Is ABA Right for My Family?

We’ll help you explore if your school-age child could benefit from structured behavior therapy. Whether it’s difficulty focusing, following directions, managing big feelings, or navigating friendships. We start with a conversation and a clear explanation of what ABA can do for your child.

Step 2: Getting Started

You’ll complete intake documents and tell us about your child’s personality, challenges, and goals. We’re here to guide you through everything with care, clarity, and flexibility.

Step 3: Assessment and Personalized Plan

Our BCBA will observe your child, connect with you and possibly school staff, and complete clinical assessments. We build a plan that focuses on meaningful growth, behavioral, academic, emotional, and social. We work with your insurance to begin services.

Step 4: Implementation of the Treatment Plan

Once approved, therapy begins. Our therapists use fun, goal-driven activities tailored to your child’s age and needs. Your BCBA tracks progress, refines goals, and supports your family through each new milestone. As skills develop, we expand the plan to match your child’s growing independence and challenges.

Understanding the ABA Therapy Process: A Step-by-Step Guide for Your Family

Step 1: Is ABA right for our family?

In an initial consultation, we’ll discuss your concerns and determine if ABA therapy is appropriate for your child. We explain how our services, including school-based ABA support can meet your child’s needs. Every treatment plan is tailored to leverage your child’s strengths and target their areas of difficulty. You’ll see faster progress when your family works collaboratively with our team from the start.

Step 2: Getting Started

Once you decide to begin, we help you complete the intake paperwork and gather information about your child and family. You can outline your main concerns, questions, and goals (including any school-related challenges). We also handle insurance verification and schedule the initial assessments to get everything in place smoothly.

Step 3: Assessment & Personalized Plan Creation

You’ll meet with a BCBA who will be the lead “coach” for your child’s team. The BCBA conducts comprehensive assessments of your child this may include observing them at our center, at home, or even in their classroom to see how they behave in different settings. The goal is to establish a baseline of your child’s behavior, communication, social, academic, and daily living skills. After the assessments, the BCBA will review the findings with you and outline a customized therapy plan. We’ll recommend where therapy should take place (in our center, at your child’s school, or both) and how many hours per week will best meet your child’s goals. Once you approve the plan, we submit it for insurance authorization so we can start services.

Step 4: Implementation of the Treatment Plan

Therapy begins! Our team comes together to implement the plan with your child. The BCBA guides and supervises our behavior therapists (RBTs) who work one-on-one with your child. During each session, whether at school or in the clinic, therapists use positive reinforcement and skill-building activities, and they collect data on your child’s performance. The BCBA continuously monitors this data to track progress and makes adjustments to the program as needed. We also keep open communication with you (and your child’s teacher, if we’re working in school) to share updates and ensure everyone is supported. As your child masters goals, we celebrate their successes and set new goals to keep them moving forward.

What is ABA therapy?

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based approach that helps children with autism and other developmental challenges build important skills and improve specific behaviors.

Is ABA appropriate for my child?

If your child has been diagnosed with autism or you’re concerned about developmental delays, ABA can be highly effective. We recommend a consultation to evaluate your child’s needs and find the best fit.

When should a child begin ABA therapy?

While early intervention is important, we provide ABA therapy for children of all ages. Starting as young as 18 months is ideal, but children can benefit at any stage of development.

How long will therapy last?

ABA therapy is tailored to each child’s goals and progress. Plans are regularly updated based on ongoing assessments, and many children experience noticeable improvements within their first year.

Am I involved in the process?

Absolutely! Parent involvement is key to a child’s success. We provide ongoing updates, training and resources to help families reinforce therapy at home and support steady progress.

Will insurance cover Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy?

ABA therapy is covered by many insurance plans. We suggest contacting your insurance provider to confirm coverage. We’ll be here to support you every step of the way during verification.

How does an assessment work?

A licensed BCBA will observe and assess your child’s behavior, abilities, and areas for growth. The results help us develop a customized treatment plan designed to meet your child’s unique needs.
